ABOUT ME
Larry Jeram-Croft joined the Royal Navy in 1970 and trained as an Aircraft Engineer. He then went on to flying training and joined his first squadron (814) flying anti submarine Sea Kings. During this time he was awarded a Queen's Commendation for Valuable Service in the Air for his role when rescuing survivors from a stranded trawler at night, in a Force Eight snow storm.
He was then appointed to convert to the new Lynx helicopter and joined HMS Andromeda as the ship's helicopter pilot. After work up the ship was sent to the AUTEC ranges in the Bahamas before returning to the UK to become part of the second wave of ships to become involved in the Falklands War. In 2012, he decided to use his blog to produce daily postings of his experiences as detailed in his flying log book. This can be seen at his blog (link below).
On return from the Falklands, he was appointed to the naval Air Station at Portland as the station Test Pilot, where he served for four years before joining 846 Commando Sea King Squadron as the Air Engineer Officer. During this time, he spent two winters operating in Norway, supporting Royal Marine training and winter exercises.
Various staff duties followed, including two years on the staff at CinC Fleet Northwood. In 1992, he was promoted to Commander and continued in the MOD and on the staff of Flag Officer Naval Aviation before retiring in 2000.
Seven years in industry followed, including working on the Future Aircraft Carrier programme before he decided to retire again. This time it was to the Caribbean on his yacht, where he spent several years cruising with Fiona his wife.
He returned to the UK, where he now lives in Somerset and works as a full time author. His interests also include Motor Racing - he competed for many years, diving and playing Golf extraordinarily badly.
His aim in writing has been to produce exciting novels that are based on fact and more importantly are authentic and give a true representation of what it was like to live work and and play in the Royal Navy of the times.
In addition to the novels he has branched out into non-fiction and has published an Operational History of the Naval Lynx Helicopter and one about the Wasp is due out later in 2018.
